Assistant Production Manager

About the Company

Homegrown is a market leader in the production and processing of flowers and vegetables for export and as part of the larger Flamingo Group their added value products supply markets in the UK, Europe and USA.

Flamingo is part of Finlays, one of the largest agricultural organizations in East Africa and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swire Group.

The company is one of the largest Lilly growers in the world and as our business is undergoing continual growth and change, an exciting, challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Production Manager to work as part of our Lilies production team in our Mt Kenya Region operations situated at the outskirts of Nanyuki Town.

The Job

Reporting to the Lilies Production Manager, the key responsibilities for the Assistant Manager include:
profitable production of lilies, achieving the highest targets possible with respect to volume, quality and consistency of supply while operating within the industry standards including general policies and procedures;
plant establishment, crop husbandry and post harvest handling upto delivery of exportable product to the packhouse;
ensuring correct pest and disease identification by scouts, evaluation of scout reports for planning and implementing crop protection control strategies;
advising on specific crop harvesting procedures, cultural techniques with the aim of maximising production while conforming to product specifications and market requirements;
ensuring all planting programmes are followed and completed within set timelines;
monitoring of all farm costs and overheads to ensure compliance with budgetary provisions;
ensuring a skilled, efficient, engaged and highly effective production team;
PH/ EC management.
The person

The ideal candidate will meet the following minimum specifications:
Degree in horticulture/agriculture or related studies;
At least 2 years experience with experience in crop/flowers husbandry;
Excellent communication skills in both English and Kiswahili;
Track record of success in flower production and people management;
Experience with lilies will be an added advantage.

Alive and Kicking Kenya is a "not for profit" social enterprise using sport to address social issues whilst at the same time making large numbers of good quality, affordable, durable, repairable leather footballs & netballs here in Kenya.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to fill in the following key positions in our Kenyan operation.

Job Description: Production Manager
1. Design document and implement a production Process that covers
Interpretation of clients requirements
Panel manufacture
Ball printing
Ball manufacture
Finishing & packaging
Storage & dispatch
Stock control
2. In conjunction with the Finance & Admin Manager ensure sufficiency of raw materials
3. In conjunction with the Finance & Admin Manager ensure sufficiency and capability of production personnel
4. Daily Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
5. Meeting agreed Production Targets
Requirements

Candidates must be self starters with excellent interpersonal skills. They should ideally be University graduates in Engineering, of the 28-35 years age group, & with 4 - 5 years experience at Production Supervisor or Production Manager level in a well established manufacturing company. Previous experience in the leather industry preferred but not essential. Valid driving license will be an added advantage.
Job Description: Commercial Manager

Liaises with clients to ensure effective customer service and to market company products.
Initiate meetings with clients with an aim to introduce to Alive and Kicking and its mission and objectives.
Effectively market the informative footballs to clients with an aim of closing down on a sale.
Respond to client queries in regard to company products.
Ensure timely communication of all orders received to the production unit to ensure timely preparation of the same.
In liaison with the production unit, ensure all footballs are made to client specifications where custom made footballs have been ordered.
Maintain effective communication channels with all clients as required.
Monitor sales objectives to ensure they are geared towards meeting the set sales targets.
Report all discrepancies noted in the day to day work to the Managing Director
Requirements

Candidates must be self starters with excellent interpersonal skills. They should ideally be University graduates in Marketing or Business Administration, of the 28-35 years age group, & with 4 - 5 years experience at Corporate Social Responsibility role or Head of Marketing Department level. Previous experience in the creative advertising, public relation preferred but not essential. Valid driving license will be an added advantage.

The organization is recruiting for a qualified, enthusiastic volunteer to assist us full-time over a 2 month period with developing a new product launch strategy.
The volunteer will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with occasional travel within Kenya and Tanzania.

Opportunity
The volunteer will be assisting to develop sound and realistic launch strategy for our latest product.
