Chief Accountant

The Cooperative Audit and Supervision Corporation (COASCO) is Parastatal Organization which was established under the Act No. 15 of 1982. The main objective of establishing the Corporation is to provide Auditing and Supervision services to Co-operative Societies in Tanzania mainland until 2005 when the Law was amended to allow COASCO to provide Auditing and Consultancy Services to include Non Cooperative entities. COASCO has 14 Regional offices in Arusha, Mara, Kagera, Mwanza, Iringa, Mbeya, Mtwara, Dar es Salaam, Ruvuma, Kilimanjaro, Tabora, Shinyanga, Morogoro and Tanga with Headquarters in Dodoma.

QUALIFICATIONS:

CPA (T) or equivalent followed by six (6) years work experience with the same position in a reputable organisation and must be registered with NBAA as Authorised Auditor/Accountant. Should be Computer illiterate in one of the Accounting Package.

DUTIES

Head of the Accounts Department responsible to the Director of Finance and Administration Responsible for preparation of financial statements and supervises pr.eparation, implementation and reviewing accounting manuals.
Ensure proper maintenance of books of accounts and timely preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRSs.
Attend External audit queries.
To provide management with financial analysis and other relevant reports for decision making. Ensures that payroll obligations and benefit payments are effected promptly
Any other duties as may be assigned by immediate superior.

suffering among the vulnerable communities.
LWF Uganda is seeking for suitable Ugandans national to fill the
position as follows:

a) Job Title : Project Accountant
b) Station of Work : Sembabule



Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, the Project Accountant will ensure daily updated accounting records for all financial transactions of the project, and make monthly financial reports to the Kampala Finance office.


Special duties and responsibilities:


• Oversees the financial and accounting activities at the project level, prepares financial projections in consultation with the Project Manager and section heads, computes budget/expenditure estimates, and submits weekly financial monitoring statements as per available budget:
• Ensures that established internal control systems for receipts and expenditures of funds are in place, adhered to and maintained;
• Controls expenditures at project level in consultation with the Senior Accountant to ensure that they are made in line with Q'onor requirements and established LWF Uganda guidelines, procedures, cash flow projections requests, and availability of funds;
• Prepares financial sub-project monitoring reports for submission to donors through Kampala;
• Prepares all transaction summaries and ledger entries for posting to the ACCPAC accounting system, and ensures that the account records for all financial transactions of the projects are updated daily in line with LWF/WS financial procedures and guidelines;
• Prepares and submits realistic and timely cash flow projects to the Senior Accountant in consultation with the Project Manager and Section heads, and notifies the Project Manager and Senior Accountant of impending cash flow shortages;
• Prepares monthly management and financial reports for the project (including cash analysis, bank reconciliation statements, and monthly income and expenditure statements cf the project), and submits such accounting information to LWF Kampala;
• Facilitates and coordinates spot checks, verifications and audits, easily avails relevant documents, ensures prompt
responses in consultation with the Senior Accountant and Project Manager, and follows-up and implements

recommendations made by both internal and external auditors;
• Prepares budgets at project level and verifies their accuracy and suitability with Section heads, the Project Manager and the Senior Accountant;
• Ensures that procedures for electronic data storage, backup, and security are followed in compliance with the LWF/DWS Field Manual;
• Ensures that ail balance sheet items (i.e. cash accounts, bank accounts, personal accounts, debtors, creditors, payroll accounts, etc.) have been reconciled, and a report sent to LWF Kampala office:


Qualifications and Experience:


Bachelors degree in commerce or business administration with accounting bias is essential, Masters an added advantage. Full professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, etc) is desirable, Computer literacy and proficiency in accounting software package(s), Certificate in supervisory skills, people management and/or leadership skills is desirable, At least five (5) years working in accounts and/or finance field in a reputable firm, public body or NGO.

High integrity, self-driven and able to set own work schedule with rigorous deadlines, Ability to initiate and complete assignments and to work under demanding circumstances with minimal supervision, Strong organization, supervisory, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication as well as team building and negotiation skills, Knowledge of one of the local languages.
