Job Title: Drivers Duty Station: Various locations in Kenya
Post Grade: G2 (Service Contract)
Accountabilities: Under the supervision of the Head of the Field Office, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
· Undertake driving duties as assigned by supervisor, ensuring strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations as well as speed limits.
· Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) and check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, fire extinguisher etc. Ensure that the assigned vehicle is kept clean.
· Keep record of mileage in the logbook and record fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc. Ensure that a thorough checklist is carried out when exchanging vehicles with colleagues and appropriate form(s) signed. Ensure that staff members transported countersign the logbook.
· Allow only authorised personnel and goods in the assigned vehicle. Ensure that WFP vehicles are not misused.
· Promptly report technical malfunctions to the supervisor.
· Handle with good care any equipment or WFP property that may need to be transported and ensure safekeeping at all times.
· Consult the Drivers' Handbook/WFP Guidelines for use of vehicles and keep yourself updated on all current advisories and vehicle operating procedures.
· Maintain professional conduct at all times in compliance with good road and driving manners. Be well presented in order to reflect a good image of WFP at all times.
· Provide timely pick-up of personnel and transport them to various destinations. Ensure use of proper technical radio language at all times.
· When on field trips, report hourly/daily position/location for personal safety and the safety of passengers. If stuck, immediately report the location to supervisor.
· Maintain safe custody of WFP equipment such as the radio equipment and keep vehicle radio switched on at all times.
· Before proceeding on any trips, ensure that a proper and thorough check of the vehicle and all equipment is carried out. Ensure that you are acquainted with the security situation and request thorough briefing before proceeding on field trips.
· Perform any other related duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
Successful completion of primary school education (KCPE). Experience in using HF and VHF radios. Be in possession of a valid Driving Licence class B, C, E. At least two years proven and continuous work experience as a driver with a safe driving record in an NGO, UN agency or a reputable organisation. Those with motor mechanic qualifications, forklift stamp and/or complete secondary school education (KCSE) will have an added advantage.
Skills: Experience in driving and maintaining different makes/models of diesel and petrol vehicles, including 4-wheel drive.
Should be trustworthy, have a high sense of responsibility, be alert, physically fit and emotionally stable. Should be polite and willing to take and carry out instructions. Must be tactful, punctual and able to use common sense. Should be able to work effectively with people of different cultural backgrounds within and outside WFP.
Language: Good spoken English and Kiswahili.
