If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Regional Adviser, Education, P-5 to be based in its Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya

Under the guidance of the Deputy Regional Director, and through frequent consultation with Country Representative, provide technical leadership, management advice and programming support throughout the region in basic education with special focus on policy advocacy in accelerating primary schooling, Child-Friendly Schools, and programming in girls’ education; and to facilitate the implementation and development of UNICEF policies and strategies in the region.

Your profile:

- Advanced university degree in the field of education, from a recognized university or appropriate equivalence, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches to research and preferably including education planning.
- Ten to twelve years of relevant work experience in development related activities of which five to eight should have been spent in a developing country, in education; in teaching, planning and at least one of the following: teacher training, curriculum development, teacher advisory.
- Versatility, judgement, maturity, and the ability to work on a team.

Ability to cope with stressful and difficult conditions, and political/cultural sensitivity.
- Current knowledge of development issues, policies, as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation.
- Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas, as well as to impart knowledge and teach skills.
- Leadership and organizational abilities.
- Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
- Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
- Skills in identifying and building regional institutional capacity and potential.
- Fluency in English and knowledge of Portuguese or French desirable.
