Roving Mechanical Manager

Location: Democratic Republic of the Congo

At MAG we deliver practical and positive solutions that assist the process of peace building in both conflict and post-conflict countries.

During the past 16 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, small and large bombs, missiles and other tools of armed conflict.

By freeing up millions of acres of land we are the precursor to the development and economic growth of conflict-affected countries throughout the Middle East, South East Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.

MAG has been working in DRC since August 2004 and is currently running significant mine action projects and Small Arms and Light Weapons projects on behalf of DfID, SIDA, US Govt Dept of State and the Royal Netherlands Government, as well as some smaller grants. The Roving Mechanical Manager post, reporting to the Country Programme Manager, will review and assess MAG DRC’s current mechanical assets and the maintenance and procurement systems for vehicles and parts.

The post holder will propose recommendations for ensuring optimum management of mechanical assets and implement the recommendations.

The Roving Mechanical Manager will train, assess and monitor staff working with mechanical assets in order to build local capacity and ensure optimum use and maintenance of mechanical assets. The role requires travel to project locations throughout DRC.

Extensive experience of maintenance and repair of vehicles is essential, as is the ability to supervise and develop others.

The post holder will also need experience of implementing and managing independent logistical controls to support the operational requirements of the programme.

In addition the successful candidate will have experience of working overseas, preferably within the region and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Fluency in French and English is essential for this role.

The salary for this role is £21,506 – £23,500 per annum (plus accommodation and per diem).
