Job Posting, Country Director:

Founded in 2003, International Lifeline Fund (ILF) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC with projects in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Haiti. Within Uganda, ILF’s activities focus on increasing rural water access, improving sanitation conditions, and combating deforestation with fuel-efficient stoves. In the past two years, ILF has produced 122 deep and shallow boreholes, and trained and provided at least 40,000 families with fuel-efficient stoves. ILF is currently seeking a new Country Director who is committed to the mission of ILF and will lead the continuation and expansion of its existing programs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Manage programs and coordinate field activities for the following programs: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Fuel-Efficient Stove programs.
• Supervise all procurements of equipment and assets for the organization.
• Provide monthly program reports to HQ in collaboration with program managers.
• Oversee all financial transactions, including providing budgets and accountability to HQ on a monthly budget schedule.
• Demonstrate maturity with excellent interpersonal and inter-cultural communication skills; possess familiarity with local cultural ethics.
• Coordinate and collaborate with international and local NGOs and CBOs in program activities, including identification of funding opportunities.
• Liaise and work with local and national government for necessary approvals and permits as well as documentation required for program continuation and expansion.
• Handle all related Human Resource issues; supervise, evaluate and motivate staff, and promote a functional and professional office environment.
• Provide ideas and concepts to the HQ for new products and services to better serve the assigned and potential Lifeline beneficiaries.
• Pursue effective and efficient logistics and communication procedures at all levels of in-country operation. Implement all necessary improvements to existing systems.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years experience with humanitarian or development programs in complex settings.
• Masters degree preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong coordination and leadership skills with proven ability to work across multiple technical areas simultaneously, supporting multiple staff members.
• Technical knowledge and practical experience with humanitarian program development, monitoring and evaluation, proposal writing, and capacity building.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Previous experience working in Africa or East Africa preferred.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).

Conditions of Employment:

• Compensation: $2500 - $2800 depending on experience and qualifications.
• Medical insurance provided with 6-8 weeks paid leave plus return ticket to home country after one year.
• Minimum commitment of 2 years. Starting date asap.
