Deputy Director: Mandarin/Chinese Trainer/Interpreter/Translator
Total salary package: R378 456 per annum. This all-inclusive remuneration package consists of a basic salary, the State’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund and a flexible portion that may be structured in terms of the applicable rules. Requirements:
* Applicants must be fluent in Mandarin and in possession of an appropriate Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
* Specialisation or experience in interpreting and/or translation in Mandarin
* Relevant experience in training adults in a foreign language is recommended
* Exposure to international relations and some knowledge of Political Science or Development Studies will be added advantages.
Competencies:
* The ability to communicate fluently in English and Mandarin
* Excellent writing skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* The ability to work under pressure and pay attention to detail
* A positive attitude and sense of responsibility and duty
* Computer literacy
* The willingness to work long hours, including weekends
* The willingness to travel abroad.
Duties:
Interpreting/translation:
* Work as an interpreter from English to Mandarin and vice versa
* Translate official documents from English to Mandarin and vice versa
* Maintain a register of all documents received for translation
* Accompany ministerial delegations during outgoing visits abroad and incoming visits to South Africa Contribute to the training of DIRCO staff in Mandarin.
Training:
* Design training courses in Mandarin for the Language Training Directorate
* Train staff of the Department
* Convert language trainer course materials into electronic training programmes
* Design effective Mandarin language assessment batteries
* Develop and update course material
* Develop and update course content in the diplomatic domain
* Assess language users and record assessment results electronically, as required by the accreditation and ISO 9001 prescripts
* Undertake research that informs training in the language training directorate.
Note: Candidates must be willing to undergo a language proficiency test/exercise and will be expected to contribute to the teaching of Mandarin in the DIRCO.
